Inédito, now in its ninth edition, showcases a collection of unique utilitarian design elements and object art at this edition of Design Week Mexico 2023. Each piece on display has never been viewed, shared, or sold, giving it a special and unique character.
This year, HITO MX participated, for the second time, in the PROFESSIONAL category. This time, in collaboration with the TARO Taller Rodríguez workshop, the piece was titled "Qualo" (from the Nahuatl word kualotl, meaning eclipse). This dining table seeks to bring the moon down to Earth. Through its textures, shapes, and materials, the pieces in this collection reinterpret pre-Hispanic design in a contemporary context, maintaining their emphasis on lunar symbolism and geometry.
What was the concept behind this piece?
Pre-Hispanic cultures attributed a very special place in their culture, architecture, and design to the stars and their movements across the celestial vault. Among them, the moon held a special place in their vision of the cosmos. They explored various methods and ways of using cement by studying it, experimenting with its combination with other materials. This allowed them to create impressive figures and visually appealing surfaces. Through the fusion of art and utility, they proposed the creation of new and profound stories.
The Qualo table features a total of 30 spheres around its circumference, surrounding the center of the table. This central space is where all the interactions that shape our lives occur, a tribute to the influence of the moon, which affects each of our days.
From this, the project selected to be presented at Inédito 2023 was born, which is available on exhibition at Espacio CDMX from October 13, 2023, to February 11, 2024, in Mexico City.
We're proud to be part of events that nurture knowledge and the soul. It's been very enriching to see creatives develop such interesting projects and step out of their comfort zones with the pieces displayed at the exhibition. We're excited to think about what we can design for the coming years and to be able to show attendees a little more about HITO MX.
What do you think of the Qualo table? Have you visited the exhibition yet? Which piece was your favorite? Let us know what you think.
